The weather held fair at least for the largest part of our 2 day horse show this year. Every child that rides at Pembroke House was invited to take part, being entered in a class appropriate to their level of experience and ability.
Parents, family and friends came to watch, and see what skills their children had been working on over the past year. Huge improvement was seen by everyone.
The children all rode very well indeed and Kate Kayes, our guest judge, was very impressed by them all. The fact that the ponies behaved so well is also a credit to the children’s riding. There were rosettes for all, and smiles all around.
Our Riding Instructor, Ginny Shambarla, said: “for my part, it is wonderful to see children learning to ride a pony with confidence, sensitivity and joy, and I fully appreciate that early stages of learning to ride is developing skills such as balance, coordination, strength, the ability to make timely decisions and adjustments”.
These skills allow riders to remain safe and be able to later choose any one of the 15 or more riding disciplines that can become a lifelong passion, or just bring you peace and pleasure.
However, we also believe that riding presents an opportunity for our children to reap the many other benefits that we feel are felt and understood in a possibly more profound way when they involve an animal. Riding presents an opportunity to experience empathy, sensitivity, connection, trust, patience, perseverance, tenacity, and resilience. These are all vital skills as we find our way in life.
Riding can take you to every corner of the world, and I can’t think of a better way to connect with this amazing planet and those that also understand and love horses, than from the vantage point of looking out between the ears of a horse.
There’s something special about standing on the side of a mountain, looking out over the world below. It’s a moment of perspective, of challenge, and of achievement.
At Pembroke House, we believe that the best learning happens when children truly understand what they are being taught - not just memorising facts but making sense of them.
How we educate and nurture well-rounded individuals who are kind, empathetic, and emotionally intelligent.
