As a preparatory school, one of our most important roles is to prepare children for their future senior schools. Pembroke House prepares boys and girls to enter a broad range of leading senior schools inside and outside Kenya, with the majority going on to some of the UK’s most highly regarded independent schools. We are extremely proud of our extremely high success rate in helping children gain places at the senior school of their choice.
With senior school admission processes now starting as early as three or more years before children reach 13, we encourage parents to start considering future schools from Year 4. We have built strong relationships with a broad range of senior schools both at home and abroad. We are in frequent contact with the heads and registrars of these schools to ensure that the preparation, admission and transition process runs as smoothly as possible.
All pupils receive excellent academic and interview preparation, tailored to the requirements and expectations of their chosen senior schools. Through the Martlet Award all pupils have a digital portfolio showcasing their co-curricular journey at Pembroke and all their contributions to school life. These portfolios provide excellent focus for conversations during senior school interviews.
Scholarships
Every year one third of our pupils receive a scholarship or award to their next school. Scholarships are awarded in a variety of areas including academic, sport and art. Many of our pupils also receive all-rounder awards.
Robust scholarship exam and interview preparation, including extra coaching, is very important. However, we believe our scholarships success is down to our focus on the individual child and our commitment to nurturing their own unique talents and interests. In identifying and investing in potential, we enable children to grow in ability and confidence, equipping them with the self-belief they need to apply and succeed. At the same time, by instilling the values and life skills that foster the ‘Pembroke Spirit’, we prepare children who stand out in the senior schools’ admissions process for their character and integrity.
“Standards of achievement are excellent among the oldest and more able pupils who receive well-directed scholarship support.”
Pembroke has a close relationship with many senior schools and as such we are well placed to help guide parents in this decision. Many schools visit us over the course of the year and we invite parents and children to meet with staff to get a feel for a school and ask questions. We also host a number of representatives from secondary schools at the annual Ndume 7s Rugby Tournament which is a great opportunity to meet and chat to different schools over the course of a fun and relaxed weekend. Pembroke has recently placed children in the following schools:
