IAPS Cross Country Championships 2023

Pembroke House joined a field of 300 athletes competing in the IAPS Cross Country Championships 2023, kindly hosted by St.Andrew’s Turi.  Despite a crack of dawn start and sacrificing their Exeat weekend to attend, all the Pembroke teams showed grit and determination in this endurance event.

At an elevation of 2,500 metres (8,200 ft) and a challenging, yet scenic course, the race took them on a mix of terrain, through the schools’ woodland and out across the pitches.

After a warm up, the U9 girls headed off first on the 3km route, closely followed by the U9 boys and U11 girls.  The U11 boys and U13 girls were challenged further on the 4.75km track whilst the U13 boys were pushed even further over a distance of 5.1km.

It was a clear, blue sky day and as the temperature rose, the children not only raced for their own personal best times, but displayed true Pembroke Spirit by supporting each other with claps, cheers and words of encouragement to get everyone across the finish line.

Our congratulations go to Peponi for being the overall winners of this year’s event.

Pembroke House, however, had podium success in three races and we would love to congratulate the following medal winners;

3rd Place U11 Girls - Iona

2nd Place U11 Boys – Harry

1st Place U9 Boys – Hamish
