This past weekend, Pembroke House, welcomed children from Ghetto Classics Orchestra to our school for their second residency of the year.
An inspirational community initiative, founded by the Art of Music Foundation, the Ghetto Classics are a collective of musical young people who live in Korogocho, one of the largest informal settlements in Nairobi.
Performing alongside Pembroke House’s Martlet Band, the children spent the morning rehearsing within their sections; woodwind & brass, strings and piano before coming together for a combined rehearsal as a full orchestra, in our theatre.
Having enjoyed a delicious outdoor BBQ together, the rest of the afternoon was spent on our sports pitches playing a friendly game of football.
Ghetto Classics will join us again at the end of March for another musical weekend, before the grand performance at 4pm on Friday 31st March, when we invite parents to join us in what promises to be a memorable last day of term, alongside the inter-house Cross Country event and Senior School performance of A Midsummer’s Night Dream.
