Last Saturday Pembroke House hosted not one but two running events.
First off was the Shrewsbury Cup Cross-Country which saw our U9 and U11 in a 3km race. In close
pursuit were the U13 who competed over a 5km route around the school grounds and neighbouring
golf course. Despite the mud and losing the odd shoe, all the children showed grit and a huge dose
of determination.
The spirit of Pembroke continued into the morning, when the whole school community united in the
annual Colour Run. Now in its fourth year, this event has become a firm fixture in the school
calendar and is most definitely the messiest. With enormous thanks to JW Seagon for their T Shirt
sponsorship and Nicki Farquharson for masterminding the entire race, this years ‘Trooping The
Colour’ was the brightest and most fun yet.
After a high-energy group warm up session, everyone set off on either the 3km or 5km route around
the pitches and out around the pony paddock. Some ran, some walked, some little ones cycled but
everyone had a blast. The paint was flying and it was a riot of colour. Even the dogs got covered.
All of the entry fee went to support the Pembroke Foundation and their centenary fundraising
campaign. The Foundation raises money for significant school projects (including our tractor mower
that ensured the pitches were in tip-top condition for the run!) and also supports local initiatives in
our Gilgil community.
Good luck getting those T-shirts white again!
